Cross Breeding an Awesome Kitty. Here kitty kitty, a liger named Hercules, is a cross between a male lion and a female tiger (tigress). It is the largest of all known cats. It is distinct from the similar tigon.

Ligers enjoy swimming which is a characteristic of tigers. And are very sociable like lions. Ligers are more likely to live past birth than tigons.

However, ligers may inherit health or behavioural issues due to conflicting inherited traits. This depends on the genetic traits of the parents.

Ligers exist only in captivity because the habitat of the parental species do not overlap in the wild. Ligers typically grow larger than either parent.

On a typical day, the liger will devour 200 lb of meat usually beef or chicken. This here kitty kitty is capable of eating 100 lb at a single setting.

At just three years old, Hercules already weighs half a ton. He is the unintentional result of two enormous big cats living close together. They live at the Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species in Miami, Florida.

Hercules already dwarfs both his parents.

'Ligers are not something we planned on having,' said institute owner Dr Bhagavan Antle.

'We have lions and tigers living together in large enclosures. At first, we had no idea how well one of the lion boys was getting along with a tiger girl. Then lo and behold we had a liger.

These two cats don't normally have the opportunity to breed in the wild. Most lions live in Africa and most tigers in Asia.'

Here kitty kitty comes at you at 50mph. Not only that, he likes to swim. A feat unheard of among water fearing lions.

In the wild, it is virtually impossible for lions and tigers to mate. Not only are they enemies, they are likely to kill one another.

Incredible as he is, Hercules is not unique. Ligers have been bred in captivity, deliberately and accidentally before World War II

Today there are believed to be a handful of ligers around the world and a similar number of tigons.

Tigons are smaller than ligers and take on more physical characteristics of the tiger.

A tigon is a cross between a male tiger and a lioness. When you call here kitty kitty look out.

Tigons often weigh around 180 kilograms (400 lb). A number of tigons are currently being bred in China.

For you animal and toyger cat lovers.........and even those who aren't. This liger is awesome! Beware when you call here kitty kitty!
